There are typically 12 full moons per year, but depending on what day of the month a full moon appears, there can be two full moons in one calendar month. The blue moon is the second full moon in one calendar month, and tends to happen about every 28 months or so.
Some pagans consider the blue moon to be a particularly powerful time for their religious rites, while others think it's just another full moon and only possess the power and influence of the typical full moon. I, personally, happen to believe that a blue moon possesses more power for my esbat.
The blue moon is a time to reflect and meditate on where your life and business is at and where you would like to see it go in the future. This is also a time to cast spells for wishes and goals that you would like to complete. It's also a wonderful time to step outside of yourself and perform rites to help and heal others and to strengthen friendships and relationships.
